Morrison Takes Open Wheels, Slawiak Grabs Sprint Win at CCMP

 In the 14 car Open Wheel Modified race, Wayne Jefferson appeared on target to win yet again in a racing season that has shown the veteran from Largo having one of his best years. Not to be however, as Jefferson was sent to the rear after making contact with front runner Phil Morrison, sending Morrison around on the front straight just past the halfway point.
 With the race winding down Tony Carreno had his number 61 positioned on the back bumper of Morrisons' race car and seemed to be a bit faster. On the last turn of the race, as the cars came off the corner, Carreno made contact with Morrison, sending him down into the infield, Carreno driving to the checkered flag.
Carreno was accepting congratulations in the winners circle, all for naught, the officials deciding Morrison would be the winner instead. Protests from several competitors including Jefferson, Doug Moff and Tony Carreno continued well after the race.
Aaron Williamson, came down from the Lakeland area to take top honors in the Sportsman race, which featured a solid field of 16 competitors. Williamson has been at times a standout in the FASCAR Southern Sportsman Series winning races all around Florida.
Sixteen Checkered Flag Sprint Cars ran 35 lightning fast laps with David Slawiak getting his third win of the season, holding off a hard charging Brian Gingras for the win.
