SCOTT BROTHERS WIN BIG IN THE SWITCH OFF RACE

By Linda Jericka

The spotlight at Charlotte County Motorsports Park was on the backbone classes, who are the drivers that keep the track going with there support. The rains came before warn ups were over and things did not look good, but the drivers that continued to pull in to race put some stress on the CCMP staff to do what ever it took to not send anyone home without a chance to race.

So with the radar showing a bit of clear sky's and the track dry, we went right into features. The T. Q.'s were up first and saw the 10 of Ernie Teed jr. first Michael Belusar second and the 1 of Jack Duffy third.

The Fab 4 came out second to race with seventeen cars taking the green, this class being made up of beginner drivers is really growing every week. These cars may not have the big sounding motors or the bright shiny cars but when they pull out onto the track for there featured event with all there family and friends in the stands on there feet and cheering them on, they all give it everything they have to be the first to cross that line at the end, and its a shame that only the top three get the spotlight.

First time out racing saw the 69 of Tom Boddy jr. who is one of the tracks Friday night kart racers put the moves on Jimmy Wilkers to win the race, Ronald hand of Arcadia came in second and his wife Beverly Hand was right behind him for fourth.

Dwarf cars saw the 33 of Roger Richmond first Jason Carter second and Roger Wolfe third. The sportsman came out for there 50 lap event with some new drivers showing up to see why this 3/8 mile track in Punta Gorda is attracting great drivers and fans. The 79X of Steve Gainey once again dominated the race with Mad Maxx Bennett trying his best to chase him down and L.J. Grimm coming in third.

The main event started with an autograph session for the 4 cylinder cars, while a slight drizzle started and once again the wind shifted and it was time to g o racing. When you here people talking about the backbone class of a race track, the Pro 4 drivers are on the top of the list, with twenty six cars signed up to race a switch off race times two, yes fifty two drivers for this one race.

If you let the rain or nascar keep you away, you missed a fun and exciting race, which consist of new drivers, old drivers and yes even big named drivers and allot of credit for this race has to be given to the two " spokespersons of the class" Walley Smith and Derrick Horton, with out there constant promoting of the class and helpfulness it would not be what it is, an affordable, fun and exciting class.

The race saw a lot of drivers come together to help each other out and after the second twenty five laps was over and all the scoring was sorted out the 1 car driver by Chris Scott won the first and brother Cory Scott both out of Nokomis won the second race crowning them over all winners of the race.

The second place team was the 16 of Walley Smith and Billy Bigley Jr out of Naples, third was Jeff Firestine and Derrick Horton and this is why they call it a family fun sport, Dylan Bigley came in fourth with Michael Rodriquez and Corey Bigley fifth with Scott Walters. Road Warriors put on great show with some different drivers making it to the winners circle like the 77 of James Dellea first and the 29 of Don Jericka taking the second spot off the 38 Gary McFall who had to settle for third.

In the Mini Stock the 97 of Todd Freed broke the winning streak of Ricky Bullard Jr who ended up second and the 14 of Jon Bailey third.

Last night of the race was not so easy for Randy Kile who had to use all his skills to win again with James Wright second and Tom Pryor third.

Keep checking the track's web site for all updates and next exciting racing at charlottecountyracing.com and the entire staff at CCMP continues to thank those drivers and fans that are always there to support them.
